As you might have noticed, I’ve haven’t really been updating this blog very much. I have unfortunately been keeping busy with other things. Here’s a quick update:

I have made zero progress on my Final Fantasy board game. I have pretty much put it on ice for now. I have no ideas on how to develop the gaming board and making it an interesting part of the game and nobody is showing any interest in the project.

I have become sidetracked by two TV-series: the HBO show Game of Thrones and the anime Fairy Tail. I’ve been in a fantasy mood for a while and now I get to indulge in it.

Earlier tonight I voiced the idea of creating a custom expansion for Dominion to some people at my local gaming club, and I got a lot of positive response. I personally don’t like the game any more, I have played it too much, but it is a favourite as the gaming club.

There has been talk about getting together a group for some Call of Cthulhu. The campaign idea that have been tossed around is a kind of mix between Men in Black and Warehouse 13.

My gaming recently has consisted mostly of older games like Diablo II, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and old NES games like the Mega Man series.

I heard on the radio today that Kim Jong-il just took his personal train into China and that got me thinking about trains. From murder mysteries and thefts to competing to becoming a tycoon and seeing the world, trains can offer a lot of possibilities.

One campaign for Call of Cthulhu that I’ve always wanted to play in is Horror on the Orient Express. Since it’s both a mammoth undertaking and out of print I have had no luck in finding a way to play it. The closest I’ve come is the actual play recordings I found over on Yog-Sothoth a while back.

Managing train track is something I have more experience of, thanks to Ticket To Ride. The game is quite simple, you try to build rails between different cities, but the balance between building quickly before anybody else takes a certain route and saving up resources to build the longer and higher scoring ones can be a fun challenge.

I just got told that I was no longer welcome as a player for the new World of Darkness campaign the local gaming group have been talking about the last month or so,  and that got me thinking about gaming groups.

Gaming works better when you all have similar goals, similar agendas, when you sit down to game. If you all know what you want and you know what you like then you can all help each other to make the experience fun and exciting.

So what to do when things don’t work out, when one of the players don’t fit with the rest of the group? Well, one option is to kick them out. Maybe not the best one, feeling can get hurt and friendships can be tarnished. It can be done in a number of way, try not to be a dick about it. Doing nothing is likewise a bad idea, if things aren’t working out then you’ll probably not have much fun. In between these extremes are a number of ways to handle it. Try to talk about, try to find a way to make things work.

Games are supposed to be a form of entertainment, so find a way to find the fun.
